always had this tendency to push against the flow. iono, it's just smthg inherent in me. it's not that i feel a need to try. i am just naturally inclined to go against.... i don't know, popularity?
b/c in the midst of all that facade, popular desires and such, something just feels... u know... superficial?
so anyway, recently, i felt very happy to have met the friends i have. to be brought up with family the way i have. ya know?
& i started to wonder about who, and exactly what makes me happy. yada yada, i eventually concluded something like this:
as much as people born in close-knit families, great parents, well-off financially, intelligence, good looks, well traveled...etc may make us jealous, i do not necessarily admire them? i do not want to BE them.
i figured i am more drawn to a person who can tell me that their families have got it rough, they weren't brought up in perfect childhood fantasies, worked for their own pocket money... or even admitted that they've once hit it so low, they've ever contemplated suicide. but they're here, and they've gt this far in life.
that's the kind of person i'd love.
oh. but before i go off-track. what triggered this post was me reading smthg wendy shared. that reiterated my perspective again.
& in respect to travelling and spending mummy/daddy's money instead- I guess sometimes it is justified:
You won’t always be young. And life won’t always be just about you. So travel, young person. Experience the world for all it’s worth. Become a person of culture, adventure, and compassion. While you still can.
Do not squander this time. You will never have it again. You have a crucial opportunity to invest in the next season of your life now. Whatever you sow, you will eventually reap. The habits you form in this season will stick with you for the rest of your life. So choose those habits wisely.
And if you’re not as young as you’d like (few of us are), travel anyway. It may not be easy or practical, but it’s worth it. Traveling allows you to feel more connected to your fellow human beings in a deep and lasting way, like little else can. In other words, it makes you more human.
